Enrollment Lottery
Our beliefs related to the Lottery process:
What is a Charter School Lottery?
Understanding the Basics
- A charter school lottery is a fair and equitable process used to admit new students to Maureen Joy Charter School when the number of applicants exceeds the number of available seats. Unlike traditional public schools, which typically admit students based on geographic zones, charter schools are open to all students within the state. When demand is higher than the number of spots available, we conduct a lottery to ensure that everyone has an equal chance of being admitted.
Why is a Lottery Necessary?
- At Maureen Joy Charter School, our mission is to provide a high-quality education to our students. Due to the high demand and limited availability of seats, we've implemented a lottery system to keep the admissions process as fair as possible for all families interested in joining our educational community. We will ensure to widely announce and publicize the application period, so all families interested in participating in the school's lottery are well informed and have the chance to apply.
How Does It Work?
-
Application: Parents must first complete the application process online within the set deadline to be considered for the lottery and upload all required documents.Maureen Joy Charter School will provide two in-person sessions to assist with enrollment, with dates to be determined.Maureen Joy Charter School will provide two in-person sessions to assist with enrollment, with dates to be determined.
-
Notification: All applicants will be notified about the date and time of the lottery.
-
Random Selection: On the day of the lottery, each applicant is assigned a random number. Numbers are then drawn to determine which students will be offered admission and, if necessary, the order of the waitlist. Before conducting the lottery, parents will be informed about the number of available seats for each grade level.
-
Offer & Acceptance: Parents of students who are selected will be notified and must accept the seat by a specified deadline.
-
Waitlist: Applicants not initially offered a seat will be placed on a waitlist and may be offered a seat as they become available.
-
Sibling Preference: Often, we provide sibling preference, which means that siblings of currently enrolled students may receive priority in the lottery process.
