Maureen Joy Charter School Names Dr. Kelvin Bullock as Executive Director; Enrollment Lottery Applications Open Through March 1
Durham, NC — Maureen Joy Charter School has named Dr. Daniel Kelvin Bullock as its new Executive Director, ushering in an exciting chapter of leadership rooted in educational excellence, equity, and community partnership. Bullock began serving in the role earlier this month.
A lifelong educator with more than twenty years of experience in classrooms, school systems, and community-based organizations, Bullock brings deep experience in instructional leadership, organizational development, and community engagement. His career has focused on strengthening schools so that every child has access to meaningful opportunity and high-quality instruction.
“Maureen Joy has long been a place where students are known, supported, and challenged to succeed,” said Bullock. “I am honored to step into this role and build on the strong foundation already in place. Our goal is clear: to ensure every scholar thrives academically and grows into a confident, capable leader.”
Founded to expand educational opportunity for families in Durham, Maureen Joy Charter School serves students in grades K–8 and is committed to fostering a joyful, inclusive learning environment grounded in strong relationships and high expectations.
The Board of Directors expressed confidence in Bullock’s leadership during this important season of growth.

As families across Durham finalize school plans for the upcoming academic year, Maureen Joy is currently accepting applications for the 2026–2027 school year. The application deadline is March 1, 2026.
