Thank you for your interest in joining our team at Maureen Joy Charter School. We strive to employ a diverse cadre of teachers and staff who are anti-racist and equity-driven; collaborate enthusiastically with others; and find joy in teaching, learning, and growing.
Maureen Joy Charter School is a K-8th grade public charter school located in Old East Durham, North Carolina. It was founded in 1997 by a group of dedicated community members who wanted to create a new vision for public schools in Durham. It has grown from a small number of children and teachers in a church basement to over 620 scholars and more than 100 employees. Our school is tuition-free and open to the public, with admission determined by a random lottery. We believe all children can succeed regardless of race, neighborhood, or the income of their families and the children at our school have demonstrated this time and again.

Professional Growth
We believe that great teachers are the key to student learning, so we are purposeful about providing exemplary professional development. Our staff culture reflects excitement around receiving and implementing feedback, growing in content and craft, and applying consistent and effective classroom practices. Professional development at Joy includes several key components:
| Instructional Coaching | Monthly Professional Development | Team Collaboration |
| Every teacher receives individualized support from an instructional Coach through regular classroom observations and feedback, curriculum and content internalization partnership, and tailored support to meet each teacher’s individual needs. | One day each month is set aside for professional development designed by our Instructional Leadership Team. Topics are determined based on school goals, data, and team input. Teachers and staff engage in culture sessions, content-specific training, and collaborative grade-level planning. | Our Teamwork and Collaboration value comes alive through weekly grade-level and content-specific team meetings. |
