Intermediate School

Expanding Minds: Intermediate Grades (3–5)

Our Intermediate Program bridges the gap between primary foundations and middle school independence. The Intermediate Grade Band is where students in Grades 3 through 5 transition from 'learning to read' to 'reading to learn,' deepening their critical thinking and independence. Our rigorous instruction prepares students for the challenges of middle school.

Deepening Knowledge and Critical Thinking

  • English Language Arts (ELA): Focus on advanced comprehension, literary analysis, and persuasive writing.
  • Math: Mastering multiplication, fractions, and introduction to algebraic thinking.
  • Science: In-depth units on life science, earth science, and hands-on experiments.
  • Social Studies: Exploring state and national history, geography, and civics.

Nurturing Creativity and Character

  • Art: Advanced techniques in various mediums, connecting art to history and culture.
  • Physical Education (PE): Team sports skills, fitness, and cooperative games.
  • Joyology: Science and engineering projects that challenge students to apply teamwork, critical thinking, and design principles to complex, collaborative tasks.

Meet the dedicated educators of the Intermediate Grades!

The Intermediate Grade team supports students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade as they transition into independent, critical learners. This phase of schooling is focused on applying foundational knowledge to more complex topics, fostering deep comprehension, and encouraging problem-solving across all subjects: ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

We are committed to providing a challenging and supportive environment that prepares students for the rigor of middle school while continuing to foster their love of learning.

Intermediate Band Highlights:

  • Content Mastery: Teachers employ differentiated instruction to ensure all students are mastering essential grade-level standards, including complex math concepts and detailed historical analysis.

  • Preparation for the Next Level: We emphasize organizational skills, time management, and research skills necessary for success in middle school.

  • Character and Community: Through Joyology, we guide students in navigating more complex social situations and understanding their role as leaders within the school community.
