Maureen Joy Charter School demonstrates increased academic strength each year and when it comes to meeting the needs of low-income students our school is dramatically outperforming other schools. Not only have we been classified as a “high-growth” school for four years in a row, but Maureen Joy was recently selected by a study group within the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction as one of six schools in the state that showed an ability to close achievement gaps for students of minority and low-income backgrounds. We believe that growth will facilitate more effective collaboration among our staff due to larger teams in specific grade and subject areas. This larger teaching staff will enable our teachers to specialize in their craft and play a larger role in curriculum development.
